Tieniu Tan, an academician and doctoral-supervisor of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is an adjunct professor of University of Science and Technology of China. Pro. Tan received his bachelor degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1984, master's and doctoral degrees from Imperial College of Science in 1986 and 1989 respectively. Majoring in image processing, computer vision and pattern recognition, Pro. Tan had worked successively in Department of Computer Science at the University of Reading, as a researcher from 1989 to 1997. He was elected to be a member of the Hundred-Talents Program (CAS) at the end of 1996 and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2013.
Having published more than 250 papers in many important academic journals at home and abroad, Pro. Tan is a prolific academician, with 20 patents at international academic conferences, presiding over a number of scientific research projects supported by National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National High Technology Research and Development Program of China(863 Program), National Natural Science Foundation of China, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and other international programs. He has been honored as one of the Top Ten Distinguished Young Scholars of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and awarded Chinese Academy of Sciences-Pacific Century Group Distinguished Young Scholars and China Youth Five Four Medal.
